Inforsk (The Information Research
Group) started in 1975, and has since then been at the Department
of Sociology at Umeå university, Sweden.
The main
focus of research is the study of communication among scientists and
engineers. During the first ten years a series of studies on information
use and informal communication were made.
Since 1985
bibliometric research methods have been applied to answer research
questions in library and information science, science policy, sociology
of science, history of ideas, cognitive and social mapping of research
fields etc.
Since the
early 1990s the Inforsk group has been engaged in teaching within
the Library and Information Science programme at Umeå university.
