1. Nature of the Award |

The scholarship will consist of an award of
$2,500 (donated by the Eugene Garfield Foundation) to be used
for travel or other research related expenses of the grant
recipient, contingent upon the recipient's attending the ISSI
biennial conference and presenting a paper. The next meeting of ISSI will be held July
24-28, 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden. (See

2. Purpose of the Award |

The purpose of this scholarship is to foster
research in bibliometrics, scientometrics, informetrics and
webometrics by encouraging and assisting doctoral students in
the field with their dissertation research.

3. Eligibility |
| |
The scholarship recipient must meet the
following qualifications:
-
Be an active doctoral
candidate pursuing research using bibliometric,
scientometric, informetric or webometric methodology in a
degree-granting institution;
-
Have a doctoral dissertation
proposal accepted by the institution.
Awards may be made for research underway or
soon to be completed.
The applicant need not be a Student Member or
a Regular Member of ISSI to be considered for this scholarship.

4. Administration |

The award is sponsored by the Eugene Garfield
Foundation with the cooperation of the Chemical Heritage
Foundation, and is administered by the Board of the
International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI).

5. Nominations |
| |
The submission should include the following:
-
The
doctoral research proposal,
including a description of the research, methodology, and
significance, 10 pages or less in length, double-spaced, and
in English;
-
A title and abstract of the paper to be presented
at the ISSI conference;

A cover
letter from the dissertation advisor endorsing the proposal;
and
-
An
up-to-date curriculum vitae.
Deadline for submissions was September 1, 2004.
