of Living The
total living cost per month including student room and food range
between SEK 5000-7000 but varies greatly, of course, depending
on individual life style. Students can manage on a food budget
of SEK 2 000 per month. Meals are not included in the rent. Students
usually prepare their own meals in the common kitchen. All student
housing areas have super-markets close by. There are also cafeterias
and restaurants at the campus where the price of a mid-day meal
is approximately SEK 45. Additional costs for transportation and
course literature should also be taken in to account.
Getting
to Umeå
Umeå
can easily be reached by air or by train. The flight time from
Stockholm to Umeå is 50-60 minutes. Umeå Airport lies only a few
kilometres from the city center, and buses will take you to the
city and on to the University Campus in about 20 minutes. If you
go by train the journey from Stockholm takes about 11 hours. Umeå
railway station is in the center of the town.
Passport
and Visa
You
will need a valid passport for entry into Sweden. In some cases,
a visa is also required. For the visa application, the "Letter
of Acceptance"/ "Notification of admission" from
Umeå University is required. For further information, please contact
the Swedish Embassy or Consulate in your home country.
In some cases, students
who come to Sweden from countries outside EU/EEA must show that they have SEK
64 000 in guaranteed financing if staying for an entire year.
Insurance
Students going to Umeå university under formal exchange
agreements between their home university and Umeå university
are covered by a collective insurance that applies 24 hour a day.

Citizens
from EU/EEA countries must show that they are covered by an insurance
from their home country (a completed E111 S form).
Residence
permit
Citizens
of EU/EEA countries can travel to Sweden and apply for a residence
permit for studies after arrival (within 3 months) from the Swedish
Immigration Board. Students who are not citizens of EU/EEA countries
must apply for a residence permit at the Swedish Embassy/Consulate
in their home country before departure. For more information see
