Drugs affecting the central nervous system. In this section, mechanisms of action of drugs used as antidepressants, antipsychotics and for the treatment of Parkinson's diserase are discussed.

Mechanism of action of benzodiazepines

Diazepam is an example of a benzodiazepine that is still used (albeit not as much as before) for the short-term treatment of certain anxiety states. Triazolam is also a benzodiazepine, but is mainly used as a short-term sedative-hypnotic. How do these compounds work (at a molecular level) and why do these compounds have different indications?
