Drugs
affecting the central nervous system.
In this section, mechanisms of action of drugs used as antidepressants,
antipsychotics and for the treatment of Parkinson's diserase are
discussed.
Mechanism
of action of benzodiazepines
Diazepam
is an example of a benzodiazepine that is still used (albeit not
as much as before) for the short-term treatment of certain anxiety
states. Triazolam is also a benzodiazepine, but is mainly used
as a short-term sedative-hypnotic. How do these compounds work
(at a molecular level) and why do these compounds have different
indications?
