Associate professor of Educational Work
With focus on Young people´s education, career development and welfare

Over the next few years Umeå University will promote research in the area of educational sciences in an extraordinary way. A number of researchers will be recruited in nine areas, one of which is Young People´s Education, Career Development and Welfare (YECW) is run by the department of Child and Youth Education, Special Education and Counselling. YECW focuses on young people in school and in transition between education and work, their welfare and career development from individual, institutional, policy and structural perspectives. International comparisons are central. At present, YECW is based on seven research projects, mainly financed by the Swedish research council, and includes 19 senior and junior researchers from different disciplines. We are currently seeking a highly qualified associate professor who can contribute to further development and expansion of the research programme. The employment period will be 2010-2014.

The work will include research and research management (80 percent of full time). Teaching and supervision, mainly at postgraduate level but also at undergraduate level, are also a component of the work (20 percent of full time).

Candidates for this position should have research qualifications at least equivalent to those of a reader (docentkompetens). When evaluating applicants, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific skills, including the ability to attract external grants. Candidates should also have pedagogical and administrative skills, and have a demonstrable ability to collaborate with other researchers and relevant actors outside the university. Experience from teaching at school and university levels, and experience from career guidance work are regarded as a merit.

The application must be written in English. Please note that in order to be considered, applications must include copies of selected publications. Applications should include three copies of each of the following documents:

  • A letter of intent including a research plan,
  • A curriculum vitae (CV),
  • Authenticated copies of all relevant diplomas and other certificates of interest,
  • A statement outlining previous research achievements and teaching and administrative experience that are relevant to the position (max 10 pages),
  • A list of publications germane to the position, please highlight the 10 publications you consider to be your most important scientific contributions,
  • Copies of the 10 publications that are considered to be your most important scientific contributions (as marked in the list), divided into three sets to be handed to the reviewers,
  • Any other documents that are important for assessing your qualifications,
  • A list of referees (with contact details) willing to provide oral or written recommendations.

All the above documents must be submitted before the application deadline.
