In the subject of Nordic Languages at Umeå University, literacy studies are conducted concerning writing practice and writing events. Writing practice emphasises that writing is part of a social practice, while writing events are focused on people’s activities within this practice. The aim of the studies is to investigate people’s writing in a temporal perspective and/or in a wider geographical perspective in order to understand the role that writing plays and has played in different social contexts. Not least of interest are studies of writing in environments that have not primarily been oriented towards writing.
In their research drafts the applicants should show in concrete terms what material is to be used and, in the light of the above-mentioned perspective, what questions will be addressed to the material. Studies of writing in other Nordic languages than Swedish, e.g. West Nordic writing, may also be considered.
